Working With Us

Admission

Clients with substance use disorders can be admitted for a minimum period of 4 weeks and a maximum of 3 months depending on individual cases.  Admission for other conditions will vary with the nature of the conditions and as prescribed by the health expert.

Prior to admission, the case manager in the treatment team will meet with the client and next of kin and discuss the client's expectations, treatment and possible duration of stay.
To ensure comfort for all and avoid premature exposure to those who are working towards quitting substance use, the entire premise is a non-smoking facility.

Multi-disciplinary approach

There is a team of experienced professionals who work together for each client's recovery:

  • Psychiatrists
  • Occupational therapists
  • Clinical Psychologists
  • Psychiatric Nurses

Activities

In general, all clients will be offered:

  • An initial medical and psychiatric evaluation followed by subsequent evaluation on a daily basis by the psychiatric nurse on duty and on a weekly basis by the medical officer for the duration of the stay.
  • An initial psychological evaluation followed by subsequent weekly therapy sessions by the clinical psychologist for the duration of the stay.
  • An initial occupational therapy (OT) assessment followed by subsequent daily OT sessions with the occupational therapist/rehabilitation technician for the duration of the stay.
  • Group sessions at least once daily facilitated by a member of the treatment team for the duration of the stay.
  • Self-care and occupational rehabilitation in the form of personal hygiene routines, basic household chores, basic meal preparation, arts and crafts, exercise and other activities as scheduled.
  • Life skills sessions discussing pertinent issues such as money management, career development and planning and relational skills will be offered weekly with a full course running over 12 weeks.
  • Alcoholics anonymous and Narcotics anonymous sessions will be offered weekly.

Weekends

Clients will be expected to stay on the premises for the initial 4 weeks of the stay.

Thereafter every client can go home for the weekend on Friday afternoon and return on Sunday afternoon.  Before going home the client will have a goal setting session with one of the treatment team members and they will be required to give feedback on these goals when they return.
